About Laamu Atoll: the deep south’s big islands

Laamu is far from the crowds. Six Senses Laamu is the resort, with its Leaf restaurant, overwater Chill Bar and spa nests. Gan, which Visit Maldives calls the largest natural island in the country, hides the Paree Fengandu, a 28 to 30-metre-deep freshwater pond, and Isdhoo’s Old Mosque of 1701 once kept the country’s oldest written chronicles. A link road joins several islands, and in April 2026 the RTL fast ferries reached Laamu.
