About Malé: the capital on one island

Malé packs the government, the markets and most of the country’s city life onto one island facing the airport across the lagoon. A day here is easy on foot: Hukuru Miskiy, the National Museum and the fish market are all close together. Malé is dry, and Fridays are quiet around prayer times, so plan drinks for the airport island or your resort.

Why it's on our list
