About Thoondu beach
Thoondu, at the northern end of Fuvahmulah, is the only beach break in the Maldives, best for surfers and skimboarders in the south-west monsoon, roughly June to August. Its sand is made of tiny shiny pebbles, and each year the shifting sand creates natural pools on the beach, which islanders call Bissaaveli. There is no lagoon here, so currents are strong.
